Data Analyst

This is a Contract position in Markham, ON posted January 6, 2022.

Extendicare is undertaking a comprehensive transformation of its backoffice functions enabled by HR & Finance cloud ERP implementation. We are seeking a detail oriented and passionate Data Analyst with experience in ERP system implementation to join our Extendicare team in Markham. In this role, the candidate will support the implementation of Workday, working closely with the Finance team to understand, manage, and standardize data across many functions, while supporting and building the data governance framework and compliance rules.


Key Responsibilities:


Understanding the Business-

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand how the business operates and how to align the requirements to the data model
  • Develop and document detailed system specifications including functional and interface, and validate specifications with key stakeholders
  • Responsible for preparing reports on data summaries, changes and trends for management as well for making alterations to existing programs to gather and report data as necessary
  • Provides support and guidance for troubleshooting system issues to other members of the team
  • Develops, review and updates system documentation in the event of changes or new implementation
  • Performs thorough problem analysis, including problem re-creation, resulting in resolution
  • Reviews submitted business processes for accuracy and approve/send back as appropriate
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for Finance data, system/business process configuration, reporting, and data

Understanding the Data

  • Determine how data is transmitted and used throughout the organization
  • Define the technical and business definition of each data set
  • Understand the requirements of each business unit
  • Identify and track known and unknown data quality issues

Standardizing the Data

  • Enforce the Data Governance framework and ensure compliance
  • Identify and communicate efficient methods to cleanse and maintain data
  • Educate team members on how data should be used
  • Create standard operation procedures to drive Data Governance
  • Design data migration processes that standardizes data sets

Validating the Data

  • Assist in System Integration Testing and User Acceptance Testing
  • Perform quality assurance exercise to ensure data is mapped and transformed properly
  • Investigate data inconsistencies or issues and determine root cause
  • Provides quality assurance assessments by following data management and data quality standards as defined by Data Governance

Delivering Business Intelligence

  • Develop complex data queries and processes using various tools, technologies, and systems
  • Extract and consolidate data from multiple enterprise systems and processes
  • Create dashboards, reports and data visualizations to drive business intelligence
  • Analyze, disseminate, and discover patterns and significance within data set

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field (Computer Science, Information Systems would be an asset)
  • Knowledge of business systems and data architecture on ERP/HRIS platforms such Workday
  • Experienced in SQL, data mining, and writing queries is a must
  • Programming experience with AS400 is an asset
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as MS Excel, Power BI or Tableau
  • Ability to manage multiple projects across multiple business units and external teams.
  • Strong communication skills with a proven ability to understand concepts and translating into deliverable requirements
  • Proven ability to collaborate, build relationships and work with individuals at all levels of an organization (as well as external vendors and service providers).
