Application Developer

Extendicare Canada Inc.

This is a Contract position in Markham, ON posted November 23, 2022.

Job Description:

The team:

Our team supports ServiceNow which is used across Extendicare for tracking of incidents, problems, change management, service requests, asset management, and configuration management. In addition to supporting routine business our team builds and supports custom applications for teams where the standard IT Service Management (ITSM) modules are not sufficient for our needs. Finally, we use ServiceNow backs our custom designed intranet site supporting knowledge bases across the organization.

The role:

You are responsible for the hands-on development and support on the ServiceNow platform as well as providing solution design when required. The solution design portion may include defining and documenting the structure, connections and relationships of systems to help support building out integrations or technical documentation.


  • Soft Skills:

o You have a passion for everything to do with ServiceNow and can help drive and implement solutions.

o You thrive on providing a great customer experience and user intuitive designs.

o You are fine with working independently, or as part of a team as needed.

o You possess excellent communication skills (verbal/written/presentation) with both technical peers and non-technical business stakeholders.

  • HTML/CSS/JavaScript Development:

o Provide software coding, customization and implement best practices.

o Configure, customize, script, and develop the platform as required.

  • Widgets on ServiceNow are reusable containers of code. The widgets may have a few configuration options but if they are not meeting the desired outcome, then customization and coding is needed. If something specific is required, that is out of the realm of what the widget can do, it will need custom html/CSS coding to be completed.
  • Troubleshooting Technical Issues:

o Responsible for troubleshooting all integration and connectivity issues for the entire portal: intranet and HR/IT service desks.

o Coordinate and solve complex technical data and transformation issues as they arise.

o Troubleshooting and implementing all ServiceNow upgrades, patching, and release management.

  • Deploying New Applications:

o Responsible for implementing, configuring, testing, and deploying any micro and macro changes required. Monitor these changes to ensure a smooth transition.

o Provide application development, maintenance, and technical support by using web programming techniques.

o Modify, expand, and update applications.

o Conduct staff training on any new applications and procedures.

Skills required to become a ServiceNow developer:

  • Extensive knowledge of JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with UI, SQL, HTML and CSS.
  • Knowledge of XML and structural programming concepts.
  • Experience using the ServiceNow platform.
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes.
  • Advanced problem-solving ability.
