Systems Administrator – Senior Consultant

CGI Group

This is a Contract position in Markham, ON posted January 12, 2022.

Position Description:

We are looking for a candidate with excellent systems administration, technical skills and willing to develop skills in automation and Dev/Ops. Your future duties and responsibilities:

• Knowledge and practical experience in Linux and Window server administration with high level of technical knowledge regarding server builds, deployment, patching and maintenance.
• Experience with working in virtualized platform, such as KVM or VMWare or Hyper-V.
• Well versed with TCP/IP, Active Directory, NTP, DNS, and DHCP, among others
• Experience in handling NFS, CIFS, and SMB permissions, capability to build multiple servers simultaneously
• Review and verify system reports (data integrity, infrastructure health, resource utilization, proactive and pre-emptive alerts/warnings/notifications)
• Conduct system maintenance activities, review error logs and user-reported incidents;
• Monitor performance to reduce interruptions and monitoring traffic logs and reports;
• Analytical skills requiring the interpretation of system, application and error logs, monitoring system performance, and ensuring server reliability;
• Create, maintain and update documentation; back up, retrieve, maintain, and migrate programs and data
• Participate in the development of projects by providing infrastructure and IT operations expertise/input
• Supporting the change and advisory process for all work to be performed and maintaining accurate record of these requests
• Intake, triage and investigating new or active incidents/issues/problems reported from systems, processes and client groups
• Ensuring support requests, incident tickets and tasks are created or responded to, updated or closed in a timely manner
• Participating and supporting incident resolution
• Participate in post-incident analysis, tactical and strategic remediation activities
• Provide support out of regular hours (on-call rotation)
• Actively participate and support incident/problem recovery efforts and investigations for supported systems
• Providing assistance with troubleshooting issues that are service affecting or increase risk to availability or functionality
• Escalate and engage next support level, management or vendor and ensure awareness to the broader group
• Documenting incidents, support engagements and pager events using prescribed IT service management tools
• Participate in disaster recovery rehearsal exercises, contribute to plan updates
• Familiarity with automation and infrastructure tools (Ansible, BladeLogic, Zabbix, Grafana)

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

4 years experience in Linux and Windows System Administrator with a Degree or Diploma in either Computer Science or related technical discipline with relevant certifications
• Windows Server: 2016, 2012, 2008, RedHat versions 6,7,8/Linux
• Ability to collaborate with senior IT specialists in many technologies
• Experience working within a fast paced environment
• Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining good organization
• Windows Infrastructure and Domain Administration: DNS, DHCP, Account Management, Group Policy
• Very good time management and organizational skills with a focus on service delivery and availability
• Very strong analytical, technical aptitude and attention to detail
• Understanding of system architecture: storage solutions, network topologies, security best practice, etc.
• Proficiency with Enterprise level tools: monitoring/alerting, incident/problem/ticket management, content management, knowledge repository/SharePoint
