KMD Solutions Software Engineer


The Role:

We are the Windows Kernel Mode Driver Solutions Team and we are seeking AMD’s best C++ programmers, embedded tinkerers, Windows OS gurus, and PC gaming enthusiasts to help us build the next generation of AMD’s Window Graphics Driver. We are growing FAST (at all levels) to deliver an unprecedented roadmap of graphics driver features that enable gamers, professionals, and creators to do more with AMD’s hardware. We focus on kernel mode, but regularly branch out to user mode drivers, application development, and firmware. We are perhaps the most technologically diverse SW team at AMD and have an incredible culture of teamwork, passion, and diversity.


In the coming months we will be building the next generation of Radeon Upscaling technology, enabling the future of AMD Advantage Notebooks with features like AAA Allocation and AAA Codec, creating the most robust Windows Workstation GPUs ever with new features like Page Retirement, and co-engineering the next generation of the Windows Operating System with Microsoft. The Person:

If you’re a quick learner with an innate desire to solve tough problems, write solid C/C++, have an affinity for operating systems, embedded devices, or PC Gaming, and want the flexibility to work in any layer of the software stack, you’ll be a great fit for our team. Communication and passion are key! 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop differentiating software features in the Windows Kernel Mode Driver using C/C++. Examples include ReLive Game DVR, Enhanced Sync, AMD MGPU, Eyefinity, Virtual Reality, xConnect Detachable Graphics, and more.
  • Debug challenging problems using WinDbg, GPUView, and other tools
  • Bring-up bleeding edge Radeon Graphics gaming and workstation products, like the 6900XT and 5700G
  • Deliver the graphics SW stack for high-end notebooks, such as the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3/4
  • Work directly with Microsoft to introduce graphics driver support for the latest Windows operating systems
  • Deliver AMD’s Radeon Adrenalin and Enterprise Software, with focus on enhancing stability, performance, power, and security.
  • Interface with other software components, such as user mode drivers, firmware, and the operating system itself


Preferred Experience:

  • Proven C++ programmer (3+ years) and problem-solver
  • Comfortable with OS internals, such as multithreading, virtual memory, interrupts, DMA, etc.
  • Understand Object-Oriented design and computer architecture
  • Exceptional communicator and collaborator
  • Can surmount the steepest learning curves
  • Has some experience with at least a few the following:
    • Very large code bases
    • Kernel debugging and driver development
    • Game development
    • Embedded programming and/or bringup
    • Operating systems and computer architecture
    • GPU graphics/compute APIs: Vulkan, Open CL/GL, CUDA, DirectX, etc.
    • Driver development tools: WinDBG, GitHub, Perforce, GPUView, ADK, Visual Studio, etc.
    • PC building


Academic Credentials:

Bachelor in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent degree. Masters preferred.
