Physician Assistant, Emergency – Full Time- Markham Site

What we are looking for:


The Physician Assistant will work with this Interprofessional team at the Oak Valley Health Markham Stouffville Hospital ED site under the supervision of the physician and in accordance with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario’s policy on delegation. The Physician Assistant will assist in the acute assessment work up, treatment and disposition of patients presenting to the Emergency Department. Work will be in the Emergency Department and the candidate will join a team of as physician extenders.


The PA will perform physical examinations on patients, assess and evaluate medical test, carry out various procedures, conduct blood tests, communicate progress to patient and team, monitor the patient’s medical and health histories, and provide discharge planning and instructions. Other specific duties will be assigned as the relationship evolves.


  • Direct Patient care – interviewing patient / history and physical
  • Performing and assisting with procedures and tasks
  • Medical Documentation – patient record, outpatient referrals
  • Communication with patient, families, supervising physician, allied health


What you bring to the role:


  • Graduate from a Physician Assistant Education Accredited (Canadian or U.S.) Program
  • Certification of Physician Assistants (CCPA) preferred, NCCPA also accepted
  • Experience working in an Emergency Department setting strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated skills in adults and Paediatric physical and mental health assessment – ER specific
  • Flexible with superior organization skills and the ability to work efficiently to prioritize multiple, competing tasks in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Ability to perform in stressful, critical/emergency situations, flexibility and ability to change and adapt
  • Effective team member and communicator who motivates and inspires others to deliver the optimal quality of care to patients
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative practice model with an interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion, and take initiative while working with confidential patient information and responding to patient inquiries
  • Demonstrated expertise in decision-making and evidence-based practice make decisions
  • Superior work ethic, professionalism and reliability; demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer service
  • Superior written/oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to effectively convey factual information and detailed explanations
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required


Work Schedule:

The successful candidate will need to be available to work 10 hour day and evening shifts.


Ability to work Days/ evening/nights/stat holidays as needed.

BAND G $43.92-$53.94 per hour

Annual Salary: $85,644.00-$ 105,183.00
