Clinical Scholar, Emergency Department – Full Time Temporary (until approx. March 2024) – Markham Site

What we are looking for:

We are seeking Clinical Scholars who will be responsible for coordinating and supporting new nurses on clinical units at Oak Valley Health. A clinical scholar is an experienced nurse, involved in current nursing practice in one of the identified specialty areas, who is engaged to facilitate learning at the bedside in the clinical setting and will support new nurses for successful transition into practice. Clinical Scholars support new graduate nurses, internationally educated nurses, and nurses upskilling to new clinical areas to gain competence and confidence in nursing care.

 

Reporting to the Director of Professional Practice and with oversight by the Clinical Manager, the Clinical Scholar will assist new RNs and RPNs to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for practice within the clinical environment as a novice level nurse. The Clinical Scholar will act as a bedside resource and a role model for new nurses while being responsible for maintaining positive relationships with the various teams to enhance the learning experience. Clinical Scholars will have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic and a commitment to supporting new staff to transition to practice using evidence-based practice.

 

Clinical Scholars are required for the following specialty areas:

  • Emergency Department

 

What you bring to the role:

 

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a registered nurse in good standing
  • Demonstrated current clinical nursing skill expertise in one of the identified specialty areas
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in one of the identified specialty areas
  • Demonstrated leadership, change management, and problem-solving skills
  • Previous experience in clinical education/teaching/precepting of nursing students and/or new staff, or other relevant teaching experience
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance record with the ability to maintain this same standard
  • Demonstrated commitment to a safe environment for staff, patients and families by working in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and related Hospital policies

Work Schedule:

The successful candidate will require flexibility in scheduling. Schedules may change due to operational needs and will be determined by the unit manager.

 

Compensation:

BAND J: $37.96-54.42 per hour
