Senior Systems & Application Engineer

THE ROLE:

The Datacenter GPU Customer Engineering team is seeking a Systems & Application Engineer.  In this customer-focused role, you will be working with the world’s fastest High-Performance Compute (HPC) GPUs being designed into exascale class supercomputers.  You will be working directly with key OEM partners, field application teams, and internal stakeholders to bring a portfolio of next-generation Server Platforms to market using AMD’s Radeon Instinct™ Accelerators, and support products in sustaining.  You will reproduce customer issues (HW & SW) and drive them to closure, work with teams throughout the engineering organization on deeper technical investigations, and support our customers in conducting qualifications.

KEY EXPERIENCE:

• Strong experience in System or Application Engineering.
• Experience with electrical interfaces, board layout, thermal and mechanical design/validation.
• Good knowledge of GPU computing, server and GPU system architecture.
• Understanding and experience working with Enterprise Linux environment (Ubuntu, CentOS/RHEL and SLES).
• Experience working with compilers and debuggers, containers (docker, singularity), build tools (Git, CMake etc.), building open source applications for Linux.
• Strong Microsoft Windows or Linux debug skills (drivers, kernels).
• Scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate technical results clearly and accurately.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.  

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Hands on experience with Data Center servers.
• Test or design experience in system interconnect technologies (PCIe, XGMI, CXL, USB, I/O Controllers)
• Previous experience in a customer facing role.
• Experience or knowledge of server firmware (eg: BIOS) settings, boot process, server monitoring and management SW.
• Proficient in any of C, C++, OOP, Java, or other programming languages.
• System Engineering experience in low-level device drivers and kernels.
• Good understanding of I/O Virtualization, PCI-Express.
• Experience with performance benchmarking and analysis.
• Experience with electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting equipment (scopes, protocol analyzers).
