 Technical Writer, Software DocumentationTHE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

As a Technical Writer for AMD Software, you will be working closely with Developers, Designers, SW Architects, Program/Project managers, and Product Managers to plan, develop, review and publish documents covering Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) Software and system-level information. The documentation scope can span from technical specifications, reference guides, product advisories, application notes, release notes, to programming guides, for GPU Software products and components, intended for technical and engineering audiences. Documentation investigation involves interviewing subject matter experts (SMEs), analyzing source technical documents from multiple records and systems, as well as product & feature requirements documents. Familiarity with the concepts of GPU computing for applications, compiler and run-time-language software development is highly desired. 

 THE ROLE:

This role provides a dynamic environment to work within, especially with the audiences for the resulting documentation, including both AMD internal clients and customers.  The potential and ability to create effective, concise and accurate technical documentation is necessary to succeed in this role.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develop API Guides, Programming Guides, User Guides, Installation Guides, Online Help, Configuration Guides, Troubleshooting Guides, Release Notes, and Knowledge Base documents
  • Author technical content using MS Word, Doxygen, Markdown, DITA XML, HTML and other languages, as required
  • Publish high-impact content using GitHub, Gerrit, SharePoint, Confluence, DITA CMS and other delivery platforms
  • Work with Program Managers, Architects and R&D teams in multiple time zones to understand product & customer requirements, product functionality and delivery timelines
  • Contribute towards development and maintenance of Technical Content Standards and Document Templates, to maximize document consistency and quality.
  • Perform self-review, peer-review and drive other initiatives with a focus on quality improvement
  • Assist Technical Lead and Information Architect to develop and maintain content strategy
  • Assist in documentation planning, report data-driven risks and impact and execute mitigation tasks in an Agile environment
  • Assist in mentoring new resources and act as the technical point of contact for peers

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 7 years of Software Technical Writing experience (an Electronics Engineering or Computer Science background is strongly desired, but not essential).
  • Must be comfortable working as an individual contributor
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience interacting with stakeholders of all verticals
  • Some familiarity with GPU technology, including software
  • Experience in Topic-Based writing using DITA XML (oXygen) and publishing using Ixiasoft, SDL/RWS Tridion or Adobe DITA CMSs
  • Experience of documenting in MS Word, Markdown, HTML and reStructured Text, as well as publishing on Github, Gerrit and other developer-friendly publishing platforms
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, XML (including DITA) XSL and related markup languages
  • Experience working with version control systems – Git, GitHub and Gerrit
  • Familiarity with the components that make up a gaming, workstation and server platform with integrated and discrete processing solutions
  • Ability to manage and deliver multiple projects and adapt to a high-availability environment.
  • Experience working with localization vendors and handling translation projects

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • A BA or BS Engineering degree is required
